What makes music sound "good?" by Dimitri Tymoczko

Very educational and recomended
Dimitri Tymoczko explaining Music

Innocencer synth for iphone from Japan

- it is poymophic synthesizer with visual effects application.
- It has keyboard and chord playing mode and "Air Play" (auto play mode by standard MIDI format 0 file) which is intresting but not sure how it works
-This effects and instruments concept is inspired from Inncence 3D PV filme list of development items.
-I was intrested in chord play concept which ( on the japanese site) linked me to chord geometrics
(check Chopin movie)
-chords in this mode of play are well organised in a logic harmonic relationship, its really fun to play

Innocencer from japanese site:
- things to do:
Cm-5 and non implementation of the Chord
Review of the modifier keys placed code (Now changed 2009/01/27)
Add a set of envelope functions (Completed 2009/01/19)
Modulator output to provide an envelope?
Consider the correspondence between sounds and effects and
Effects of high-volume LFO (vibrato)
Improve the sound settings screen
Ability to store sound settings
Operator selection of the algorithm
Icons, creating a start-up screen
Resource (string / message) and the Japanese
The addressee's (MIDI) files from the network load
Beta release prepared by the Ad Hoc

very very intresting indeed :)

Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain by Oliver Sacks

"the book opens with a middle-aged man who is struck by lightening. He isn’t badly hurt, but since the accident, he’s been obsessed with the urge to play the piano. He’s never really played before or had an interest in music, but suddenly he’s up all night composing and trying to get better. Why has this happened? Why is unaffected except for this urge, which takes over his life? Brain scans show that his left frontal lobe has been damaged and Sacks hypothesizes that the left hemisphere of the brain might actually inhibit the more creative and musical right side of the brain. Left brain damage might lead to more “freedom” in the right brain."

Audioboo vs Calabarock

"Calabarock (App Store link) is a free internet-enabled multi-track audio recorder for the iPhone.
When you create a track in Calabarock, it’s available almost instantly in MP3 format on calabarock.com for others to hear.
The new track is also available instantly for other musicians to play on top of, just as if you were in the studio laying down one track at a time on a multi-track recorder.
If you’ve used Calabarock, leave a comment with your thoughts!
NOTE: 3G network access is great for browsing and listening to Calabarock tracks, but WiFi access is recommended (for speed purposes) when recording.

AudioBoo, the audio blogging platform and iPhone app that was launched in private beta in January, is now freely available at the App Store. It’s one of 4iP’s first investments - backing Best Before Media’s development of AudioBoo, which lets users create and tag recordings which in effect produce a map of the world tagged with evocative sounds of each place.

Knocking about the AudioBoo.fm site, you can learn about White Day in Japan, listen to a German practising his guitar chords or any number of ‘boos’ that are the AudioBoo equivalent of “Testing, 1, 2, 3…” - and even those are surprisingly addictive."

"What will grow crooked, you can't make straight
It's the price that you gotta pay
Do yourself a favour and pack your bags
Buy a ticket and get on the train
Buy a ticket and get on the train

Cause this is fucked up, fucked up
Cause this is fucked up, fucked up"

my comments to Palm Sounds subject: Apple and the idea of casual music making

maybe its like three things:
1. apple the company and famous mac and all the buzz about iphone
2. for sure its apple store and the idea that iphone is not phone at first place, but appz heaven
3. multitouch interface - much more easier than traditional small lcd screen, ugly buttons devices

Jasuto examples, Jasuto update news

Jasuto is just great,
modular synth on iphone with VST, AU version.
Just cant beleve it, amazing...

And here sth for those who cant wait, taken from Jasuto forum:

"Re: Jasuto update
by hemicube on Fri May 08, 2009 7:46 am

Well I can't really give an exact date even if I wanted to, predicting software release dates is really best left to philosophy majors.

I can say that things are shaping up nicely and hopefully by the end of the month there should be something testable.

Also even before that I'm likely going to release an update that will include the band-limited oscillators, some minor graphics fixes, and iPhone 2.0 OS compatibility."

Melodica iphone is out. Tenori-on-like appz are growing in number

Melodica form CandyCane is 16 a note seq one octave scale

"Tired of waiting for a proper tonematrix/tenori-on on the iPhone? The wait is over...the long waited and most hyped music app that lets anyone compose brilliant music compositions (even those who think that they aren't musically talented) is now available!

Melodica is a revolutionary music application that mixes lights and sounds in a unique way, allowing anyone to compose music intuitively creating amazing visual effects just with the tips of your fingers.

With Melodica everyone can make music, and when we say everyone, we mean it! We believe that simplicity is beautiful, and you will too as soon as you start to play with Melodica!
If you like Bloom, Ocarina, Leaf Trombone, Pocket Guitar you will love Melodica.
Melodica comes from the makers of Fuzzle and it is inspired on the Tenori-on and on Tone Matrix made by Andre Michelle.
Try the amazing Tone Matrix at: http://tinyurl.com/tonematrix to really hear what Melodica is all about!"

Its fun now
and I could do with more iphones and on each different tenorion app and different pattern playing :)

Whoses gonna be a winner ??
Its all on u guys and your updates
I gues paksound had a lot of features but melodica and toneboard have this tenorion tonematrix feeling. Nice.

Aurora borealis

SOLSTORM - Auroras in Norway from Terje Nesthus on Vimeo.

"This is the culmination of many, many hours of timelapsing the auroras this winter. I used two DSLR’s, a Canon 350D and a 40D, and they took probably like 40-50 000 pictures, that I later edited and made into movies. It was a constant struggle against wind, snow and cold. I could not always place the cameras where I wanted to because of wind. That is why you see some fences, because I had to place the camera behind buildings so it wouldnt fall. It took me about 1.5 hour to make 10 seconds of film, mostly taking long exposures at 10 or 13 sec.

The aurora season this year was not very active but Im glad I atleast got these shots.

The music is licenced by Jamendo, the artist is called Galdson and the nice song is named Merlaska."

ToneBoard on iphone

"ToneBoard is a fun application which is composed by a 16x10 tone matrix. I got this idea by the real world product "Yamaha TENORI-ON", which is fantastic!! However that product cost around 800 euro."

I tried its app and to me its a lite version of André’s ToneMatrix its fun to use and at last has a feeling of tenorion. But we really need more features to consider it as a music tool and not only a toy, so please maybe this one is going to get a major update in the future...

"More exiting features are coming soon, grab one before the price rise!!"
